For each product, there are 3 steps required to enable Design Online using the Print Science Designer: 1.

Convert the original design into PDF template file 2.

Upload PDF template file, fonts and images to the Designer server 3.

Configure the product in your shopping cart.

This tutorial illustrates step 1: Convert the original design into PDF template file.

The only tools we will use are Adobe Acrobat Pro and the PDFlib Block plugin.

The first step is to open your original design in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Then enable the PDFlib Blocks plugin.

When it is enabled, you will see this check mark.

We create the first block by selecting the top-left corner then the bottom-right corner of the block.

We will see the PDFlib Block dialog box.

The Type allows you to indicate whether the block will be filled with text or an image.

The Block Name is automatically assigned in a format like: Block_1.

Block Name is not shown to your customers.

The Description is the label of the block that your customer will see during personalization.

In the General tab, we can adjust the size, position and orientation of the block.

The Position field controls the alignment of the image in the block.

We will center the image vertically and horizontally.

The first block is now complete.

We will add a second block by selecting the top-left and bottom-right corners.

This block will be filled with text.

The Description is the label of the block that your customer will see during personalization.

The Position controls the alignment of the text within the block.

For this block, we set vertical alignment to bottom and horizontal alignment to center.

In the Text tab, we specify the font characteristics used to render the text entered by the customer.

Here we enter the default text that will appear in the field when your customer begins the personalization process.

The customer can change the text from the default.

Here we select the font that will be used to render the text the customer enters.

You can select any TTF or OTF font.

All fonts used in PDFlib Blocks need to be uploaded to the Designer server.

The fontname displayed here must match the name of the font used when you upload the font to Designer server.

Here we select the font size that will be used to render the text the customer enters.

The units for font size is: Points.

Fontstyle should always be set as: normal.

Here we select the fill color used to render the text entered by the customer.

First we select the color space for the color.

Use DeviceCMYK to define the color in CMYK.

Use Separation to select a Pantone or HKS color.

Here we define the CMYK color using 4 values in the range 0 - 1.

The color defined for this block is: 0 0 0 1.

This corresponds to: Cyan 0%, Magenta 0%, Yellow 0%, Black 100%.

The second block is now complete.

Now we save the PDF with the PDFlib Blocks inside it.

The next step is to upload this new PDF template file to the Designer server.
